Pin-tailed Pondhawk
Erythemis plebja
The Pin-tailed Pondhawk (Erythemis plebja) is a dragonfly of Florida and Texas in the United States but it occurs south to Argentina. In Texas, it is usually found only in the southern portions of the state. The first two shots here of a male were digital captures on the King Ranch in Kleberg Co., Texas in October, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 550 EX flash.
The female shown here and the young male following were near the Rio Grande in Hidalgo Co., Texas, in June, 2008. Both these shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and flash.
The male Pin-tailed Pondhawk shown here was at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in June, 2009. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
