Narrow-striped Forceptail
Aphylla protracta
Within the United States, the Narrow-striped Forceptail (Aphylla protracta) occurs only in southern Texas. It is a fairly large and showy clubtail that is quite similar in appearance to the Broad-striped Forceptail (Aphylla angustifolia). The first shot shown here, of a young male, is a digital capture taken in Edinburg, Hidalgo Co., Texas in October, 2003. The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash.
The next shot is an adult male, taken in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, in July, 2004, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 300 F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 550 EX flash.
