Marsh Firetail
Telebasis digiticollis
The Marsh Firetail (Telebasis digiticollis) is a tropical species of pond damsel which was discovered new to the United States in September, 2010. This discovery, by Terry Fuller, was made at San Benito, Cameron Co., Texas. Since the initial discovery, Terry has found perhaps a dozen other locations for this species in that immediate vicinity, in both Cameron and Hidalgo Counties. The first 14 shots on this page were taken near San Benito, Cameron Co., Texas, in September, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash. At least one other Mexican species is visually identical to his species, but specimens of these insects have confirmed this identification. The first 9 shots show male Marsh Firetails.
A pair in copula is shown here.
The next 3 shots show female Marsh Firetails.
Another male is shown here.
