Maine Snaketail
Ophiogomphus mainensis
The Maine Snaketail (Ophiogomphus mainensis) is a fairly common snaketail of rivers and streams throughout much of the Appalachian Mountains and the far northeastern United States and adjacent Canada. As the name implies, it may be more commonly encountered in Maine than most other areas within its range. Compare this dragon to the very similar Brook Snaketail (O. aspersus)The first 9 shots on this page were taken along the west Branch Ingalls Brook, near the Machias River, Washington Co., Maine, in June, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash.
