Hyacinth Glider
Miathyria marcella
The Hyacinth Glider (Miathyria marcella) is a species of the southeastern U.S., but it occurs all the way to South America as well. It is often found in or near coastal areas. The shots here were digital captures with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. Both photos were taken in October, 2003, on the King Ranch in Kleberg Co., Texas. This species can sometimes be seen foraging with groups of Wandering Gliders and Tramea species.
The next 2 shots of Hyacinth Glider were taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
