Eastern Ringtail
Erpetogomphus designatus
This is page 2 of Eastern Ringtail (Erpetogomphus designatus) For page 1 go here. The seven shots on this page were taken along the Rio Grande in Presidio Co., Texas in September, 2006. Originally we thought these were Serpent Ringtail (E. lampropeltis) but after my friend Martin Reid started investigating further, and after the specimens were looked at more critically by Dr. John Abbott, it was determined that they are indeed E. designatus. These images apparently represent a Mexican form of this species not normally encountered in the United States. I will add more data here when I get it. The seven shots here were all taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. The first six shots are of males and the 7th shot shows a female.
