The Desert Whitetail (Plathemis subornata) occurs across much of the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico. The first 6 shots shown here were all taken near Marathon, Brewster Co., Texas, in September, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The next four shots of a female Desert Whitetail were taken in Cottonwood Canyon, Comanche National Grasslands, Baca Co., Colorado, in July, 2011, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
The next three shots show a male Desert Whitetail at the BLM overflow wetlands in Chaves Co., New Mexico, in August, 2011. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
