Gomphus lynnae
The Columbia Clubtail (Gomphus lynnae) is a local dragonfly of the Pacific Northwest and is found only in parts of Washington and Oregon. It prefers rivers and streams and may perch on mud banks or rocks. Its thorax may become quite pruinose on some individuals. The female shown here was on the John Day River, Wheeler Co., Oregon, in July, 2008. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
