Canada Darner
Aeshna canadensis
The Canada Darner (Aeshna canadensis) is a large dragonfly that occurs across the northern U.S. and much of Canada. It is not often found perched, so many shots of this species, including these, are posed. The shots of this male was taken in Algonquin Provincial Park, Nipissing Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.
The young female Canada Darner shown here was in Penobscot Co., Maine, in August, 2009. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The male Canada Darner in the next two shots was netted in Roseau Co., Minnesota, in July, 2011.
