Macaroni Penguin
Eudyptes chrysolophus
The Macaroni Penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus) occurs on sub-Antarctic islands from islands off the coast of South America to South Georgia to islands south of New Zealand. There are a few pairs that nest regularly on the Antarctic Peninsula, mainly at Hannah Point on Livingston Island. The shots here were all taken at Cooper Bay, South Georgia. The first shots show some adults near their nesting colony in January, 2003. Those two shots were taken with a Canon D60 and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 580 flash. The shot of the two adults in a little squabble was taken in January, 1996, with a Canon T-90 and 400mm F/5.6 lens.
The next three shots were taken at Hannah Point, Livingston Island, Antarctica, in December, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The pair here are preening one other.
