Loggerhead Shrike
Lanius ludovicianus
The Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) occurs across much of the United States but it can be rare and local in distribution, especially in the northeast. The species remains quite common across most of Texas. The two shots at the top of this page were taken along the roadside south of Marfa, Presidio Co., Texas, in September, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The next two shots shown here show a Loggerhead Shrike near Lake Kissimmee, Osceola Co., Florida, in March, 2007. These were shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
