Herring Gull
Larus argentatus
The Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) is a common gull across most of the coastlines on North America. It breeds along the Great Lakes and across Canada and in winter may be found throughout much of the interior of the United States. This species takes 4 years to reach maturity and its many different plumages can make it a challenge to identify for birdwatchers. The first 4 shots shown here show sub-adult Herring Gulls in the Gulf beach at Port Aransas, Nueces Co., Texas, in February, 2010.
