The Hawaiian Coot (Fulica alai) is an endangered endemic species in Hawaii. It occurs on all of the main islands of Hawaii but is most numerous on Maui, Oahu, and Kaua'i. Until recently it was regarded as a race of the American Coot. The first nine shots on this page were taken in a small canal in Kailua, Oahu, in August, 2012, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
