The Greater Pewee (Contopus pertinax) is a breeding species of the southern Rockies of Arizona and parts of southwestern New Mexico. It is also resident across much of Mexico. During winter, the species typically migrates to Mexico from the U.S., but sometimes one will wander to Texas. The bird in the first seven shots on this page set up a winter territory in a cemetery in McAllen, Hidalgo Co., Texas, during December, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
