Great Blue Heron

| The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is one of the most familiar wading birds in North America. It breeds across most of the United States and Canada and ranges southward well into Mexico. The species may also be found on the Galapagos Islands and in the Caribbean. The bird at right was at Port Aransas, Nueces Co., Texas, in December, 1994, and was photographed with a Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Kodachrome 200 film. |  |
| The Great Blue Heron seen in flight on the right was on West Galveston Island, Galveston Co., Texas, in September, 1999, and was photographed with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Sensia. |  |
