Eastern Kingbird
Tyrannus tyrannus
The Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus) is familiar to observers over most of the United States. It is a breeding resident over much of North America except for the American Southwest. The two shots here were taken at Anahuac N.W.R., Chambers Co., Texas, in April, 2001, with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia.
The Eastern Kingbird shown here was perched on a barbed wire fence at the Pawnee National Grasslands, Weld Co., Colorado, in June, 2007. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The rather scruffy looking Eastern Kingbird shown here was already into its post-breeding moult. This shot was taken in Webster Co., Nebraska, in July, 2009, with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
