| Couch's Kingbird (Tyrannus couchii) is a species that is mainly found in south Texas within the U.S., but it is common over much of Mexico as well. The first two shots here were taken in July, 1995, in Starr Co., Texas with a Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Sensia. The shot at right shows and adult bird in worn plumage in the center, flanked by two recently fledged immature birds. These youngsters were pestering the adult for food. This species is quite rare this far north in Texas, but this particular season saw several records in the Austin region. |
