Lava Gull
Larus fuliginosus
The entire world population of the Lava Gull (Larus fuliginosus) lives on the Galapagos Islands. There are thought to be only about 400 pairs of this species in existence. The birds here were photographed on Bachas Beach, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, in July, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens.
The next four shots of Lava Gull were taken during an August, 2010, visit to the Galapagos Islands. The first three shots show an adult on Tower Island. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens.
This immature Lava Gull was also on Tower Island in August, 2010.It has discovered a dead fish which it is investigating.
