The Funnel Weaver Spider (Agelenopsis species) is commonly encountered in areas of Prickly Pear Cactus in south Texas. The spider makes a very thick web with a tunnel that allows the spider to retreat back inside the tunnel to a dark, protected area to wait for a prey item to touch the web at which time the spider will dart out to grab the prey. The first six images on this page were taken in April, 2006, in Hidalgo Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 180 mm F/3.5 Macro lens.
