The Periodical Cicada (Magicicada species) apparently emerges on a thirteen or seventeen year cycle, depending upon the species and the location. The top two images on this page were taken in the Ouachita National Forest, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma, in May, 2011. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
This shot was taken with the same camera gear as the previous images, but in Montgomery Co., Arkansas, also in May, 2011.
