| Within the United States, the Striped Saddlebags (Tramea calverti) is usually confined to south Texas, but it often strays east and north of Texas in the late summer and fall. The species also occurs south into South America. This species shows more black at the tip of the abdomen than does Red Saddlebags and the females and young males show obvious stripes on the sides of the thorax. The first 4 shots here show several males while the next 2 shots show a female. The first 6 images on this page were all taken near Mission, Hidalgo Co., Texas, in April, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender. |  |
