Painted Skimmer
Libellula semifasciata
The Painted Skimmer (Libellula semifasciata) is an uncommon skimmer of the eastern U.S. ranging west to the prairies. The male here was a digital capture in June, 2003, in the Angelina National Forest in Jasper Co., Texas with a Canon 10D and EF 70-200 mm F2.8 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. The Painted Skimmer here was perched along the edge of a pitcher plant bog.
The next 4 shots (a male, remainder female) of Painted Skimmer were taken in the Big Creek Scenic Area, San Jacinto National Forest, San Jacinto Co., Texas, in March, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender.
The next two shots, both male Painted Skimmers, were taken in the Angelina National Forest, Jasper Co., Texas, in June, 2008, with the same gear as previously described.

The female Painted Skimmer on the right was in the Kisatchie National Forest, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, in March, 2012.
