Orange-striped Threadtail
Protoneura cara
The Orange-striped Threadtail (Protoneura cara) is a member of the family Protoneuridae and within the U.S. occurs only in Texas. It is also found southward into parts of Mexico, but is the only member of its genus to enter the U.S. Most Texas records have been in the Hill Country of the central part of the state, but the species has also been found along the Rio Grande and near the coast of the Gulf of Mexico on occasion. The shots here of a pair in tandem were taken along the banks Honey Creek in the Honey Creek State Natural Area, Comal Co., Texas, in June, 2005. These photos were digital captures with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580EX flash. I hope to add some more photos of better quality soon.
