Oklahoma Clubtail
Gomphus oklahomensis
The Oklahoma Clubtail (Gomphus oklahomensis) occurs in a fairly small area of the south-central United States including parts of s.e. Oklahoma, e. Texas, s.w. Arkansas and w. Louisiana. It occurs along steams and ponds in forest habitat. The first two shots on this page were digital captures with a Canon 10D and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender and 550 EX flash in the Sam Houston National Forest, San Jacinto Co., Texas in early April, 2004.
The female Oklahoma Clubtail shown here was in the Davy Crockett National Forest, Houston Co., Texas, in March, 2008. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next two shots of male Oklahoma Clubtails were taken along Indian Creek, Jasper Co., Texas, in March, 2008, with the same gear described previously.
The male Oklahoma Clubtail in the next 2 shots was in the Sam Houston National Forest, San Jacinto Co., Texas, in May, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. If you look closely, in the top of the 2 shots, the clubtail has a damselfly under its body which it is feeding on.
