Little Blue Dragonlet
Erythrodiplax minuscula
The Little Blue Dragonlet (Erythrodiplax minuscula) is a very small dragonfly of the southeastern U.S. (ranging north to Maine) where it can be found at vegetated ponds and backwaters. The photo here of a female was a digital capture in the Angelina National Forest, Angelina Co., Texas in May, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 300 mm F4 L IS lens with a 1.4X extender and 550 EX flash. This dragon was resting on some grass at the edge of a small pond in an area that had been burned by a forest fire about 5 years earlier.
The two shots of a male Little Blue Dragonlet shown here were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and a 2X extender in Gonzales, Gonzales Co., Texas, in October, 2007.
The male Little Blue Dragonlet in the next 2 shots was in Bastrop S.P., Bastrop Co., Texas, in May, 2008.
The female Little Blue Dragonlet shown here was near Shepherd, San Jacinto Co., Texas, in May, 2009. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender and flash.
The female shown here was photographed early in the morning so there is still dew on her back. The next shot shows a male. These 2 shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash in Jasper Co., Texas in June, 2009.
The next 4 shots (3 males and a female) of Little Blue Dragonlets were taken in Bastrop State Park, Bastrop Co., Texas, in July, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
