The Gulf Coast Clubtail (Gomphus modestus) is an uncommon dragonfly of clear rivers and streams in the south central United States from parts of Mississippi west to east Texas and north, rarely, to parts of Tennessee. It is a large and impressive dragonfly and often perches conspicuously on logs or sandbars. The first three images on this page show a male Gulf Coast Clubtail on a log along Whiskey Chitto Creek, Allen Parish, Louisiana, in May, 2011. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
The next three images show another male Gulf Coast Clubtail along Cypress Creek, DeSoto National Forest, Perry Co., Mississippi, in May, 2011. The same camera gear as the previous images was used.
