Within the United States, the Gray-waisted Skimmer (Cannaphila insularis), formerly known as Narrow-winged Skimmer, has been found only in Texas but it occurs in Mexico, the West Indies and south to Panama. The first two shots of a lone female here were taken in August, 2004, along the San Antonio River in Breckenridge Park, San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300 mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. | |
