Forcipate Emerald
Somatochlora forcipata
The Forcipate Emerald (Somatochlora forcipata) is an uncommon dragonfly across much of Canada and the northeastern United States. Like many emeralds, this species can be difficult to photograph as they seem to spend a great deal of time flying. I felt lucky to get a few shots of a male near Errol, Coos Co., New Hampshire, in June, 2010. The first 2 shots on this page were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash.
