Emerald Spreadwing
Lestes dryas
The Emerald Spreadwing (Lestes dryas) is a widespread damselfly across the northern two-thirds of the United States as well as much of Canada. The male (top two images) and female (bottom image) shown here were digitally photographed in July, 2005, near White Lake, Lanark Co., Ontario, Canada, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.
The next 3 shots show female Emerald Spreadwings near John Day, Grant Co., Oregon, in July, 2008. In the top two shots the insect is holding its wings folded, not uncommon in cool temperatures. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next two shots of male Emerald Spreadwing were taken at the same time and place as the shots of females just above.
