Brook Snaketail
Ophiogomphus aspersus
The Brook Snaketail (Ophiogomphus aspersus) is an uncommon snaketail of the Appalachians as well as the northeastern United States and parts of adjacent Canada. This is a dragonfly of flowing, clear streams and it is similar in appearance to several others of its genus. The first 8 shots on this page were taken along the West Branch Ingalls Brook, near the Machias River, Washington Co., Maine, in June, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash. Compare to the very similar Maine Snaketail (O. mainensis).
