Bronzed River Cruiser
Macromia annulata
The Bronzed River Cruiser (Macromia annulata) is a member of the Cruiser (Macromiidae) family of dragonflies and occurs in Texas and New Mexico in the United States. It is fairly distinctive with its mostly brown and yellow body and showing a single yellow stripe on the side of the thorax with another complete or nearly complete stripe on the front of the thorax. Compare to Royal River Cruiser and Illinois River Cruiser. The individual shown at right was a digital capture in Gonzales, Gonzales Co., Texas in August 2003 and was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F2.8L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. See below for two other shots.
The next two shots were taken with the same equipment as before in Austin, Travis Co., Texas in June, 2003. Note that the yellow stripe on the frontal shield is almost complete, but not quite.
The Bronzed River Cruiser shown here was near Luling, Caldwell Co., Texas, in August, 2005. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The Bronzed River Cruiser shown here was along the Guadalupe River in Gonzales, Gonzales Co., Texas, in August, 2007. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and the same lens and flash as used in previous shots.
