The Boreal Whiteface (Leucorrhinia borealis) is a distinctly northern species, mainly confined to Canada and Alaska, but populations are also found in some Rocky Mountain areas Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and Montana. It is the largest whiteface species. The first five shots on this page were taken in July, 2011, in the Laramie Canyon area of the Roosevelt National Forest, Larimer Co., Colorado, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash. The first five shots are all males of various ages.
The male Boreal Whiteface on the right was at Westchester Lagoon, Anchorage, Alaska, in June, 2012. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender.
