Boreal Bluet
Enallagma boreale
The Boreal Bluet (Enallagma boreale) is a common, widespread damselfly of much of the United States and Canada. It is absent from the southeastern United States and parts of the mid west, but may be found in much of the remainder of the country. It is similar to many other bluets and an examination of the male appendages is usually necessary to make an identification. The first 5 images on this page were taken at the Oxford Reservoir, Franklin Co., Idaho, in July, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next 5 images of male Boreal Bluets were taken near Unity, Baker Co., Oregon, in July, 2008, with the same gear as above.
The male Boreal Bluet shown here was in the Clearwater National Forest, Idaho Co., Idaho, in August, 2008. The same gear as above was used to make this image.
The male Boreal Bluet on the right was in the Laramie Canyon area, Roosevelt National Forest, Larimer Co., Colorado, in July, 2011. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
