Argia tibialis
The Blue-tipped Dancer (Argia tibialis) is a widespread eastern damselfly that occupies a wide range of habitats from swamps and bayous to flowing streams and rivers. The photos here were shot along a stream in San Jacinto Co., Texas in June 2003. The images were digital captures with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F2.8 L IS lens with a 2X extender and a 550 flash.

The male Blue-tipped Dancer has been partially
consumed by a predator, but its abdomen is still attached to the female. This is occasionally observed. The abdomen tip will likely fall off eventually. This shot was taken at Cheraw State Park, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina, in May, 2012.
