The Bleached Skimmer (Libellula composita) is a pale colored skimmer with distinctly marked wings of desert areas from parts of Texas west to California. The species often is associated with alkaline marshes or occasionally hot springs and lake edges. The first eight shots on this page show male Bleached Skimmers at the BLM overflow wetlands near Bottomless Lakes State Park, Chavez Co., New Mexico, in August, 2011. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
The next two shots of a male Bleached Skimmer were taken at Bottomless Lakes State Park, Chavez Co., New Mexico, in July, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and a 580 flash.
