Banded Pennant
Celithemis fasciata
The Banded Pennant (Celithemis fasciata) is a medium-sized dragonfly of the eastern U.S. (ranging west to New Mexico) where it can be found at ponds and lakes. The first two photos here were digital captures in the Angelina National Forest, Angelina Co., Texas in May, 2003, and were shot with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 300 mm F/4 L IS lens with a 1.4X extender and 550 EX flash. This dragon was resting on some grass at the edge of a small pond in an area that had been burned by a forest fire about 5 years earlier.
The next three shots show a female Banded Pennant at Lost Creek, Nueces Co., Texas, in May, 2003. These images were shot with the same gear as described previously.
The male Banded Pennant at right was in the Angelina National Forest, Angelina Co., Texas in June, 2003. This shot was taken with the same gear as described previously.
