Arch-tipped Glider
Tauriphila argo
The Arch-tipped Glider (Tauriphila argo) is a tropical species of parts of Mexico and Central America. In the early summer of 2008, the species was recorded for the first time in the United States at Bentsen State Park, Hidalgo Co., Texas. The first 4 shots of this page were taken of a female at Bentsen in June, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. This species, like many others in the "glider" group, spends much of its time on the wing and seldom is seen perched. Although we observed a number of males and females, this is the only individual I ever saw perched.
