Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel
Spermophilus tridecemlineatus
The Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus) is resident across a large portion of the Central United States and Canada. It prefers short grass prairies but may also be found in parks, golf courses and along roadsides. The animal shown in the top three images here was in the Pawnee National Grasslands of Weld Co., Colorado, in June, 2001. These shots were taken with an EOS 3 and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film. Scroll down for more images.
