Snowshoe Hare
Lepus americanus
The Snowshoe Hare (Lepus americanus) occurs across most of Canada as well as Alaska and the northwest regions of the lower 48 states. The species is brown in summer and white in winter but it is known to remain brown all year in parts of Washington and Oregon. The individual shown here was photographed near Loomis, Okanogan Co., Washington in June 1998, with a Canon T90 and a Canon 400 mm f5.6 lens on Kodachrome 200.
The next 2 shots of a summer Snowshoe Hare were taken near Errol, Coos Co., New Hampshire, in June, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
