The Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris) is a resident of the coast of south Alaska and in isolated areas of the Pacific coast south to central California. It was almost hunted to extinction for its fur in the 1800s but is now recovering in some areas. The species feeds on shellfish which it ofen breaks open while floating on its back. The shots on this page were taken off Seward, Alaska, in June, 2012. | |
