The African Lion (Panthera leo) is well known to people around the world from movies and books. In person, it is an impressive beast to behold. On my two brief Africa trips I have only been fortunate enough to see this species twice, but I have posted a couple of photos here. On the right a female and a cub watch me curiously. I was taking this shot from a vehicle window. This shot was taken in Etosha National Park, Namibia, in October, 1998. |

The image at right shows two African Lions resting under a tree after they have gorged themselves on the carcass of a small elephant. Like the previous shot, this one was taken in Etosha National Park, Namibia, in October, 1998. |
