The Gulf Fritillary (Atlides vanillae) is a common southern butterfly which occurs from the United States southward to South America. The first 4 images here were taken in May, 2003, in Real Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 180mm F/3.5 Macro lens. The 5th image was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The Gulf Fritillary shown here was in Denton Co., Texas, in August, 2007, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The shot shown here was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in November, 2002, with a Canon EOS 1V and an EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji 100 film.
The Gulf Fritillary shown here was in Victoria Co., Texas, in November, 2009. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
