Brown-banded Skipper
Timochares ruptifasciatus
Within the United States, the Brown-banded Skipper (Timochares ruptifasciatus) is a Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas speciality. No other brown skipper is marked with these darker brown bands across the wings. The one shown here was at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in October, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The next 2 shots of a Brown-banded Skipper were taken in Weslaco, Hidalgo Co., Texas, in September, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
