Euphydrys anicia
The Anicia Checkerspot (Euphydrys anicia) was formerly considered a form of Variable Checkerspot (Euphydryas chalcedona anicia) but is now treated as a distinct species. It is sometimes referred to as Anicia Variable Checkerspot. It is widespread in parts of the American west. This species is variable in coloration from individual to individual. The first 4 shots on this page were taken at Boreas Pass above Breckenridge, Summit Co., Colorado, in July, 2008, at about 12,000 feet elevation. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash.
