Dideric Cuckoo
Chrysococcyx caprius
The Dideric Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx caprius) is also called Diderick Cuckoo or Diederick Cuckoo by some authors. The species is fairly common and widespread over much of Africa south of the desert regions. The shots here were all taken in Kruger National Park, South Africa in January, 2006 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and 1.4X extender. A male bird, mostly green, is shown in early morning light as well as open shade illustrating the various shades of green in the plumage depending upon the light. The female bird shows less green and barred underparts.
