Bare-cheeked Babbler
Turdoides gymnogenys
The Bare-cheeked Babbler (Turdoides gymnogenys) has a very small world range, occurring only in SW Angola and adjacent Namibia. The species often troops about in small flocks or family groups which can be quite noisy when alarmed. Their call, a rapidly repeated "kerrrr kerrrr ke ke ke ke ke" can be heard from quite some distance away. The photos to the left and below were taken with a Canon EOS 1N & EF 300mm F4L IS lens with a 1.4X extender on Fuji Sensia 100 with available natural light. The camera and lens were hand-held on a BushHawk shoulder mount. The photos were taken in Etosha National Park, Namibia in October, 1998.
