Setophaga petechia
The Yellow Warbler (Setophaga petechia) is a widespread breeding warbler across most of the United States and Canada. The species winters as far south as Peru. The first two shots shown here show a migrant male at South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in May, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. To see some shots of a Mexican subspecies of the Yellow Warbler known as "Mangrove" Warbler go here.
The male Yellow Warbler in the next two shots was a territorial bird along Coyote Creek in Coyote Creek State Park, Mora Co., New Mexico, in June, 2007. These two images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next 3 shots, also of a nesting, territorial bird, were taken at Red Rocks Lake N.W.R., Beaverhead Co., Montana, in June, 2007, with the same equipment as described above.
The next 2 shots of Yellow Warbler show a migrant male in Starr Co., Texas, in April, 2009. These 2 shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next five shots show a Yellow Warbler on its nesting grounds at Nome, Alaska, in June, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
