White-collared Seedeater
Sporophila torqueola
The White-collared Seedeater (Sporophila torqueola) is common bird in many parts of Mexico. It inhabits grasslands and brushy areas over a wide area of that country. The species is regular in deep south Texas in areas along the Rio Grande but it can be hard to find one. The first six shots on this page show a female White-collared Seedeater in Laredo, Webb Co., Texas, in February, 2011. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
