Townsend's Solitaire
Myadestes townsendi
The Townsend's Solitaire (Myadestes townsendi) is a breeding bird of a vast area of the Rocky Mountains from Alaska south to New Mexico and Arizona. The species also nests in some parts of Mexico. During the winter the species mostly pulls out of its Canadian and Alaska breeding range and drops south into the United States and Mexico. The shot on the right shows a wintering Townsend's Solitaire at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Culberson Co., Texas, in December, 1996. The shot was taken with a Canon T-90 and FD 400mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film.
The Townsend's Solitaire shown here was sitting on a nest incubating eggs about 25 miles west of Loomis, Okanogan Co., Washington, in May, 2000. This shot was taken with the same gear as the above image.
