The Sora (Porzana carolina) is a small rail which may be found across much of the North American continent. It may be found in fresh, brackish, or salt marshes where it spends most of its time walking through the vegetation searching for food. Its voice is very familiar to persons who spend much time around marshes. It is a common bird, but may be quite hard to see at times. The Sora in the two images shown here was on the edge of a small marsh in Kenedy Co., Texas, in January, 2000. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film.
The Sora shown here was at Medicine Lake N.W.R., Sheridan Co., Montana, in June, 2007. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
